Police list five locations for Wednesday crime spree in Topeka
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Topeka police provided additional details late Thursday morning on a crime spree that included the stabbing of three people at five different locations early Wednesday afternoon in the capital city.
Two of the stabbing victims were reported to have suffered life-threatening injuries.
Police listed a total of 17 victims, ranging in age from 4 months to 70 years old. It wasn’t immediately known if the victims and the assailant knew each other.
A man identified as Adam James Schwegman, 47, of Topeka, was arrested in connection with the crimes. Shawnee County Jail officials said Schwegman was listed as a homeless person.

The incidents -- which police listed in three separate cases -- were reported over about 90 minutes on Wednesday afternoon at several locations in Topeka.
The first incident was reported at approximately 12:07 p.m. Wednesday, when officers with the Topeka Police Department responded to a reported stabbing in the 1600 block of S.W. Fillmore Street.
Upon their arrival, officers located two individuals who had been stabbed at separate locations on that block.
Both of the stabbing victims were transported by American Medical Response ambulance to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, officials said.
Another possible stabbing was reported around 12:20 p.m. Wednesday in the 1800 block of S.W. Topeka Boulevard, about five blocks southeast of the Fillmore location. However, details on that possible incident weren’t immediately available.
Later that afternoon, at approximately 12:59 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to another reported stabbing in the 600 block of S.W. 3rd Street. Upon arrival, officers found an individual who had sustained injuries that weren’t believed to be life-threatening. That person was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
Then, less than 10 minutes later, police responded to a reported aggravated battery at Ward-Meade Park in the 100 block of N.W. Fillmore Street. Officers arrived at that location to find an individual who had sustained injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening. That person was transported by private vehicle to a local hospital for treatment.
Police said a man suspected in all of the attacks, who was later identified as Schwegman, had been detained.
Schwegman was booked at 10:55 p.m. Wednesday into the Shawnee County Jail, officials said. He was being held at the jail on Thursday.
