New voters get notices listing wrong Dodge City polling site

After moving Dodge City's sole polling site outside city limits, local election officials sent newly registered voters an official certificate of registration that lists the wrong place to cast a ballot in the upcoming midterm election.

It is the latest election snafu to surface in this iconic Wild West town where Hispanics now make up the majority of the population.

For nearly two decades, the only polling site was in the mostly white part of town. Officials recently moved it outside the city limits for the November election. Now they are scrambling to notify newly registered voters confused by the official registration notice that listed the old polling site.

Meanwhile, voting rights activists are marshaling resources to get voters to the new polling location.

The Dodge City Transportation Department says it will transport voters to and from the Western Kansas State Expo Center - the new polling site - for free.
