Thousands gathered in Texas on Monday to honor a veteran as he was laid to rest.

The veteran served in the Air Force for four years in the 1960s, but no one who attended his burial even knew him.

After Joseph Walker's death, he had no next of kin and no one claimed his remains. No one was expected at his funeral.

Everything changed when a veteran's group posted on Facebook and asked people to attend, saying "we do not leave veterans behind."

Funeral services for unaccompanied veterans aren't unusual at the cemetery, but most are attended by only a handful of people.

But on Monday, thousands of people answered the call

The line to get in the cemetery stretched for miles with some six thousand cars waiting to pay their respects.

Joseph Walker may have been unknown, but now, he'll never be forgotten.
