Wichita city council approves demolition of Mead's Corner

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) The building which once house the popular coffee spot, Mead's Corner, will come down.

The Wichita City Council voted, 6-1, to move forward with demolishing the building. Councilman Brandon Johnson voted against it.

The city's historic preservation board had recommended denying that demolition request.

The city also approved a community improvement district for the project which will replace the current building with a new, four-story mixed-use space.

The CID allows special taxes imposed in the district to be used to pay for the development.
