Murder arrest made, victim identified after shooting in northeast Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Update July 3: The Sedgwick County booking sheet shows Tobias Trevon Love of Wichita was arrested on a charge of first-degree murder.

The victim was 17-year-old Jaron Reed. Police said the two met for a drug deal before multiple shots were fired. Detectives are trying to determine the circumstances leading to the shooting.

Wichita Police said a 17-old-male died and a 21-year-old man was seriously injured in a shooting connected to the 900 block of North Glendale Saturday evening around 6:30 p.m.

In a release from WPD, it said officers found the 17-year-old unconscious and not breathing when they arrived. He had several gunshot wounds on his upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Later Saturday, the 21-year-old showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand. Police said the injury was serious but not life-threatening. He was treated at the hospital and released. WPD said he is being questioned further.

Investigators found the 17-year-old and 21-year-old had an encounter, and multiple shots were fired. Police are still working to learn more about what happened. Police have not released the name of the two people involved but said both are from Wichita.

Sgt. Ted Naldoza of the Wichita Police Department confirmed a juvenile male died after a shooting in northeast Wichita.

Sgt. Naldoza said Sedgwick County dispatch received a call of a shooting at 6:20 p.m. on Saturday. Sgt. Naldoza said officers arrived at the 900 block of North Glendale and found a juvenile male with one apparent gunshot wound to the chest. Sgt. Naldoza said life-saving measures were taken but the male was later pronounced dead on the scene.

The Wichita Police Department is investigating the incident.
