Vigil held for 1-year-old killed in shooting at SE Wichita apartment complex
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A Wichita family shared emotional moments Thursday afternoon, gathered for a vigil in memory of a 1-year-old boy killed by gun violence. Taidyn Anderson died Monday night from his injuries in a shooting at an apartment complex near Pawnee and Oliver.
Two women, including his mother, Tiara Anderson, suffered injuries in the shooting. Released from the hospital, Tiara gathered with family and friends Thursday as the launched balloons in Taidyn’s memory.
Tiara said she was holding her son when both were shot. Before the shooting, she remembers her “baby” talking to her in the last moments they had together.
“He just started saying, ‘momma.’ He was so good at it,” Tiara said.
Taidyn’s grandmother described the toddler as “a happy baby.”
“He was happy all the time, dancing all the time,” she said. “He’s definitely going to be missed. He was the light of all of our worlds.”
Tiara’s sister was the third victim in Monday night’s shooting. The family said she’s still in the hospital but is expected to recover.
