City of Wichita holds ribbon cutting for its newest park
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The city held a ribbon cutting for the Chisholm Trail Parkway in the Delano neighborhood on Wednesday afternoon, marking it as one of the city’s newest parks.
This project has been several years in the making, revitalizing an abandoned railway corridor. The park offers a variety of features, including a walking path and a dog park.
“It’s been a vacant space for such a long time and I think we got really creative trying to figure out a way to use this space where the neighborhood and surrounding communities are able to use it,” said City of Wichita Vice Mayor and District 6 council member Maggie Ballard.

Wednesday’s unveiling marked the first phase of the project. The second phase will include a playground that expands through Friends University and Newman University, eventually connecting to the Sunset Trail.
