Wichita organization giving away 100 free trees to homeowners, churches, businesses
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - ICT Trees, a Wichita organization, is set to give away 100 trees.
The organization received a grant from Evergy to help plant more trees in Wichita.
The trees will be given away to homeowners, churches and businesses in April. The organization is targeting neighborhoods near urban heat islands, which includes areas that are very warm because of the development around them, like buildings and streets.
“Trees lower ambient air temperatures. They lower temperatures by as much as 12 degrees,” said Harold Schlechtweg, President of ICT Trees. “There could be as much of a 12 degree difference between neighborhoods that have tree cover and neighborhoods that are lacking it.”
People who want a tree have to contact ICT Trees to be eligible. You can reach them at: trees.ict@gmail.com
The giveaway will happen on Apr. 11 at Emporia Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
