Celebrating Halloween brings Wichita’s College Hill neighborhood together
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - While across the country, kids and families celebrate Halloween, one Wichita neighborhood has a celebration that feels a little more special.
The rain and mud wasn’t enough to stop the crowds from trick-or-treating in College Hill, which has become a tradition for many Wichita families.
“College Hill Halloween, we go big every year,” said Jeff Polson, who lives in the area. “We do something new every year.”
This year, the Polson family decorated their home with a Dr. Suess theme in mind, complete with props, set pieces, costumes and music.
“I grew up in College Hill, and when we moved back - I love Halloween. It’s the best holiday,” said Chloe Polson. “And so we needed to do something fun. And I love the idea of something different every year. And it’s a challenge for us to build it.”

The Polsons said it brings the family together. More than that, Halloween brings the entire College Hill community together.
“It’s fun to interact with the community. That’s really the best part is all the people smiling, happy,” Jeff said. “Getting to shake hands with 3,000 people basically. Tell them happy Halloween.”
This year, Chloe’s childhood best friend came to Wichita, just for Halloween. The Polsons said that Halloween is what makes College Hill home.
“I think it’s part of College Hill’s charm, and the community for sure,” Jeff said.
“We love seeing families come by, all dressed up together. It’s the best,” Chloe said.
