Public libraries in Wichita, surrounding communities kick off summer reading programs
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) -Public libraries in Wichita and surrounding communities launched their summer reading programs in which participants can enjoy educational presentations and activities while earning chances to win prizes.
The program is open to all age groups, children, teens and adults. This year’s summer reading program, including Wichita and several surrounding communities, is dinosaur-themed. With that, part of the challenge includes reading at least one book about dinosaurs.
Other Wichita area libraries hosting summer reading programs include:
- Andover Public Library
- Derby Public Library
- Goddard Public Library
- Valley Center Public Library
- Newton Public Library
- Park City Public Library
- Haysville Community Library
With the area programs, participants who meet their goal can return to the library to pick up a prize pack and be entered into a grand prize drawing.
“We just know that it’s a huge benefit to keep that reading up throughout the year at that early developmental stages, just that practice of reading, and it forms such a big building block for learning beyond just what is done in the classroom or at school,” said Wichita Public Library senior Communications Specialist David Garcia.
The summer reading programs wrap up in the final week of July.
