Mahomes, Chiefs agree to record-breaking contract extension
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes agreed to a record-breaking extension on Wednesday, according to ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter.
The Chiefs are adding two years to Mahomes’ contract, tying him to Kansas City through the 2033 season at $504.75 million.
It’s the first NFL deal valued at more than a half-billion dollars, according to Schefter.
In July 2020, Mahomes signed a 10-year extension worth $450 million after leading the Chiefs to the Super Bowl championship the previous January.
Mahomes has since guided Kansas City to two more Super Bowl wins. The 30-year-old Mahomes owns stakes in the Kansas City Royals and Sporting Kansas City of Major League Soccer.
Mahomes tore his ACL in a Dec. 14 game against the Chargers. He’s said to be ahead of schedule in rehab and could be ready when the Chiefs open the 2026 season against the Broncos on Sept. 14.
