Wichita nonprofit hosts 5K to raise money, awareness for human trafficking survivors
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Hundreds of people lined the streets of west Wichita on Saturday to help fight human trafficking.
On Saturday morning, those people ran in the ‘Race 4 Freedom 5K.’ It’s the 15th year for the event, which raises money and awareness for ICT SOS.
ICT SOS is a nonprofit that provides resources for human trafficking survivors in the Wichita community, but the 5K event attracts people from across the state.
Scouts even serve breakfast after people cross the finish line.
“I think it’s a great event. There’s lots of people. I mean, a lot of people care about it, and they’ve, there’s a lot of people doing a run - and this early in the morning,” said one person at the event. “I’m happy for it. It’s always cool to see all the sponsors that also come and support.”
Two runners hit all 90 of the small ‘Keeper of the Plains’ statues around town. They ran more than 125 miles before arriving to the race on Saturday morning.
