Creative tribute honors man beloved in McPherson community
Friends of a hard-working McPherson man honor him with a unique tribute that's meant to last. Barbers at the Fox and Ash Barbershop got special tattoos of Nelson Vetter's face.
Vetter, 25, works three jobs in McPherson, one of which is at the barbershop where he works a support role for his barber friends. This includes cleaning and working the register. Vetter has special needs that go along with a rare medical condition, but he doesn't let any obstacle keep him from working in and giving back to his community.
In addition to working his three jobs, we're told Vetter is active in his church's youth group and helping with activities with the McPherson school district.
Friday, Eyewitness News received several messages from viewers in McPherson, letting us know about Vetter and the tattoo tribute recognizing his five years of service at the Fox and Ash Barbershop.
One message sharing Vetter's story explains a few additions to the barbers' tattoos. The artwork of Vetter's face includes a cross, representing his strong faith, and keys, representing his extensive key collection.
A YouTube video from 2015 shares part of Nelson's story, showing him at work and featuring interviews from friends in McPherson.
In upcoming days, likely within the next week, Eyewitness News plans to visit McPherson and share more of that story, including a visit to the Fox and Ash Barbershop to learn more about the creative tribute to Nelson Vetter.
