Police identify 18-year-old woman killed in south Wichita shooting

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) Update - Wednesday:

Police have identified an 18-year-old girl shot and killed in south Wichita as Myranda Keck.

Police say the shooting occurred Tuesday morning in the 1600 block of South Estelle, near Harry and George Washington Boulevard.

They say Keck was in a vehicle with her mother and boyfriend when someone drove by and fired several shots into the vehicle.

Keck suffered a single, fatal gunshot wound. Her mother and boyfriend were not hurt.

She is Wichita's fourth homicide victim of 2018.

An 18-year-old woman is dead following an early Tuesday morning in South Wichita.

Police were called to the 1600 block of South Estelle, near Harry and George Washington Boulevard, around 2:20 a.m.

Police say the woman's 18-year-old boyfriend and 40-year-old mother were also in the car at the time of the shooting.

They tell police they had just arrived home and parked their car in the street when someone drove by and shot multiple times into the white 1988 Hyundai Elantra.

The 18-year-old woman.was hit. She was pronounced dead on the scene. Her mother and boyfriend were not hurt.

Police say the woman and her boyfriend were passengers in the car and her mother had been driving. They would not say where they were sitting in the vehicle or where the woman suffered the fatal gunshot wound.

Police are still trying to determine where the three were coming from before the shooting.

The woman's death marks Wichita's fourth homicide of 2018.

Neighbors like Austin Talbert in the area say the situation has left them concerned.

"I don't want my kids to be innocent bystanders by any means i'd rather take that for them than them, I just hope the community gets better," Talbert says.
