Rainfall totals across Kansas top 7 inches, 4″ in Wichita
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Update: Wichita is now up to 4.16 inches of rain. It’s a record-breaking number.
Storm Team 12 Meteorologist Adrian Campa said this is the most rain Wichita has seen in a single day rainfall since September 9, 2016.
Wednesday’s current total also shatters a record for daily rainfall on October 25, 2000, of 1.63 inches.
Heavy rain overnight Tuesday and into Wednesday was problematic for drivers on their morning commute.
Emergency crews responded to multiple crashes on Kellogg in east and west Wichita. Luckily, no one was hurt.
Firefighters were called to Lincoln and Santa Fee in south Wichita where they had to a driver after a car stalled out. They pushed the car out of the street and into a nearby parking lot.
Despite warnings from police, our Storm Team 12 Mobile Weather Lab found drivers traveling through floodwaters at Orme and Broadway. Officers put up barricades at Harry and McLean in hopes of keeping out determined to forget their way across flooded roads.
Storm Team 12 said more rain is expected throughout the day in Wichita which will result in more localized flooding. As of 10:30 a.m., Wichita had received a little more than three inches of rain in 24 hours. Emporia had received a whopping seven inches in the span of a day.
