WATCH: Senior women in Wichita enjoy competition playing ‘Granny Basketball’
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A group of senior women took the court Monday, enjoying competition in what they call “Granny Basketball.”
The league was created as “a fun, competitive exercise for women over the age of 50.”
“Granny Basketball” is played six-on-six with modified rules from the usual game. In 2023, more than 550 players compete for 42 teams in 10 states: Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Wisconsin, California, and Arizona.
Competing in Wichita on Monday, players ranged in age from 59 to 91. Several players shined when they were younger, playing at the high school and even collegiate levels, but that is not a requirement to join the fun.
