Suspect arrested after stealing vehicle, leading police on chase through McPherson Walmart
MCPHERSON, Kan. (KWCH) - A Hutchinson man was arrested following an on-foot chase through a McPherson Walmart Sunday morning.
McPherson Sheriff’s deputies say they located a stolen vehicle south of McPherson around 9 a.m. Sunday. Officers found the car in a ditch near the K-61 highway and 14th Avenue after witnesses reported seeing a man leave the scene. When officers arrived, it was determined the vehicle was stolen from Hutchinson, and the suspect was not located.
In a separate report, around 10:40 a.m. Sunday, McPherson police responded to another vehicle burglary reported near Walmart in the 2100 block of E. Kansas Avenue. McPherson officers found the suspect, who was said to have been the same suspect from the earlier report in the day, located inside Walmart. The suspect then fled through the store and outside, where an on-foot pursuit led McPherson PD to the 2200 block of East Kansas Avenue near the Fairfield Inn.
The McPherson Police Department said they were able to arrest the suspect. He was booked into the McPherson County Jail on multiple charges and is awaiting extradition to Reno County. Formal charges are pending.
