WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - McConnell Air Force Base relocated its aircraft Monday morning, away from severe weather forecasted for the Wichita area.

Storm Team 12 said a powerful weather maker moving across Kansas will set the stage for strong to severe storms this afternoon and evening, including high winds with the potential for large hail and tornadoes.

As a precaution, McConnell moved its KC-135R Stratotanker and KC-46A Pegasus aircraft to other military bases outside the local area to protect them from potential damage and to preserve the base’s mission to provide Air Refueling, Airlift and Aeromedical Evacuation worldwide.

In addition to moving planes, maintenance crews moved equipment and remaining aircraft inside hangars for protection.

This is the third relocation of McConnell aircraft in four weeks due to severe weather.
