Wichita grocery stores prepared for Thanksgiving with extra staff, full shelves
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - With Thanksgiving just three days away, grocery stores across Kansas are bustling with shoppers making final preparations for the holiday meal.
At the Dillons location at Central and Rock Road, shoppers found crowded aisles but well-stocked shelves on Monday. Kenny Wilson, shopping for his family’s entire Thanksgiving week groceries, said he was initially concerned about finding everything on his list.
“Normally we would’ve had it done last week, running a little behind this year... kind of worried about everything being here,” Wilson said.
Wilson’s shopping list included potatoes, bread for stuffing, and ingredients for three or four pies his wife plans to make. Despite his concerns about crowds and picked-over shelves, he found items like cranberries fully stocked.

The grocery store was busy, with shoppers navigating crowded aisles to gather essentials for the holiday. Wilson noticed the store had opened multiple checkout lines with staff to help customers with their purchases.
“I think the store is very crowded, there’s a lot of people here... but the shelves are very well stocked, and so I don’t think there’s anything on the list I won’t be getting,” Wilson said.
Wilson successfully completed his shopping, finding all the items on his list. He said the experience was easier than he expected despite the busy conditions.
Store staff appeared prepared for the holiday rush, maintaining inventory levels and providing extra checkout assistance for customers.
