1 arrested, 2 sought in connection to chase, crash in Rose Hill
One person is in custody and two other people are being sought in connection to a chase, and crash in Rose Hill.
The Rose Hill Police Department responded just before 4 a.m. to a report of suspicious activity in the Sienna Ranch housing addition north of town.
Officers located the vehicles involved and attempted to pull over the vehicle. Police say the driver of one vehicle refused to stop, leading the officer on a chase through the city. The vehicle crashed in the 300 block of east Foxbrier and two suspects fled the scene on foot.
The second vehicle was seen driving in the area of the crash scene and was stopped. The driver fled from that vehicle on foot and officers gave chase through the neighborhood and into a heavily wooded area.
Three K-9 Units from Andover Police Department were called for assistance in tracking the suspect. Andover Police also responded with a drone to aid in searching the area. Several Butler County Sheriff Deputies and Kansas Highway Patrol Troopers assisted with a search of the area spanning over four miles from the crash site. KHP called out air support also aiding in the search along with an additional K-9 unit.
Police say tips from citizens continued to come in and eventually led to the apprehension and arrest of a 17-year-old from Wichita at around 9:35 a.m. Two other suspects were not located and the search was eventually called off after nearly six hours. The suspect has been interviewed by law enforcement and will be facing charges of Burglary to Auto, Obstruction of Apprehension, Criminal Trespassing and Possession of Marijuana.
Both vehicles were found to have been stolen during the overnight hours. The vehicles were recovered and processed for evidence.
Police say the suspects at large were seen heading towards Sedgwick County. Anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to call the Rose Hill Police Department at 316-776-0191.
