Inmate becomes first woman to graduate from jail’s CDL program with license, endorsements

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (Gray News) – A woman in a Florida jail has become the first female inmate to graduate from the jail’s Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) program.
According to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, Ajiah Gee is the first female inmate to graduate from the Walton County Jail CDL Program, earning her Class A Commercial Driver’s License with no restrictions.

The sheriff’s office said getting a CDL in Florida isn’t easy. Candidates must pass written exams, a road skills test, and demonstrate their ability to safely operate complex vehicles.
Gee, 25, took her training one step further by also earning her double/triple trailer endorsement, “T”, and a tanker endorsement, “N”.
“These accomplishments take hard work, dedication, and determination. All qualities Ajiah has shown every step of the way,” the sheriff’s office said.
The Walton County Jail CDL Program is funded entirely through inmate welfare dollars and gives incarcerated individuals the tools to succeed when they return to our communities, the sheriff’s office said.
“Second chances matter. Every certificate, every license, and every step forward is a chance to choose a new path,” the sheriff’s office said. “Congratulations, Ajiah. Thank you for paving the way for others to follow.”
